What this page is for

This appendix captures Netherlands-specific employment setup, holiday handling, and contract terms that differ from the global baseline.

What you should do

Use this page to confirm:

  • which contract types we use in the Netherlands
  • how Dutch public holidays are handled
  • sick leave treatment by contract form
  • internship baseline terms
  • commuting support and pension position

Employment forms in the Netherlands

We employ in the Netherlands through these forms:

  1. Full-time staff on a permanent contract (temporary contracts may be used for specific positions, depending on role requirements).
  2. 0-hours contracts.
  3. Internships with a monthly internship fee of EUR 500.

Dutch public holidays

Helixiora treats official Dutch public holidays as paid days off for Netherlands employees.

Dutch law does not automatically make every official public holiday a paid day off for every employee. This is a Helixiora employment policy for the Netherlands setup, subject to the employment contract and applicable law.

Sick leave by contract type

  • 0-hours contract: sick pay depends on whether hours had already been accepted or scheduled, the contract, and Dutch law. If this applies to you, contact the People lead so the case is handled correctly.
  • Contract-based employment (including full-time staff): sick leave remains paid in line with the contract and Dutch law.

For background on call-based contracts (including 0-hours structures), see the Dutch government guidance on oproepcontracten.

Internship terms

Internships are normally 6 months. Final duration can be adjusted based on your school’s requirements and should be agreed before the internship starts.

Pension, retirement, and commuting

We do not currently offer a pension or retirement plan in the Netherlands.

If you need a public transport card for work, ask the People lead (Robin).

Helixiora rents a small office inside The Hague Tech in The Hague, at Waldorpstraat 5, 2521 CA Den Haag. This space is used for co-working, client meetings, and Helixiora Connect sessions.

Who owns or approves it

Until we have a formal People Operations function, the People lead (Robin) owns this appendix, with support from local payroll/legal partners.

Where to go in the tool stack

Use the same routes described in Tools & Support, with local process rules from this page:

  • local payroll provider for Netherlands salaried payroll
  • Deel or the contract-specific email route for expenses and reimbursements
  • People lead (Robin) if you are unsure which route applies to you

What happens if something goes wrong

Dutch labor law takes precedence over this page.

If this page and Dutch labor law differ, we follow the law where it provides better protection or terms for you.

If you notice a conflict with the law, please tell the People lead (Robin) or open a PR in the handbook repository: github.com/helixiora/handbook.
