What this page is for
This appendix captures South Africa-specific employment guidance that differs from the global baseline.
What you should do
Use this page to confirm:
- how to use judgment around local holidays
- when South Africa employment is used as an exception
- how Deel should be used for local paperwork and finance
Holiday approach
We do not observe a fixed South Africa national-holiday list. South Africa has many public holidays and personal circumstances can vary, so we ask you to use reasonable personal judgment in planning time off.
This works alongside our unlimited holiday leave policy. We will formalize South Africa-specific guidance further over time.
When in doubt, discuss your holiday plan with Robin.
Hiring policy for South Africa
NOTICE: We do not normally hire in South Africa as a standard location (outside NL hiring). South Africa employment is reserved for exception cases only.
Who owns or approves it
Until we have a formal People Operations function, Robin owns this appendix and approves any South Africa exception hiring case.
Where to go in the tool stack
Unless you happen to have Dutch citizenship, we hire in South Africa through Deel. You are expected to arrange your employment paperwork and finance-related setup through Deel. If you have Dutch citizenship, you fall under the Netherlands appendix.
What happens if something goes wrong
If holiday planning, hiring status, or Deel setup details are unclear, raise it with Robin before taking action.
